Can You Wear Crocs to Work?

Can You Wear Crocs to Work?

As you seek comfort during long work shifts, you might turn to crocs. But are they acceptable at your workplace? Different companies have different policies on the dressing code. While some state that you should wear your dressy shoes, others will let you enjoy some casual footwear. So can you wear crocs to work? The answer depends on your company and its policies.

Let’s have a look at how companies feel about you wearing crocs to work.

Companies and Their Policies

Companies have clear guidelines on how you can dress at work so as to avoid miscommunication. Those guidelines exist for a reason. The reason being they would not want you to show up at work while you are wearing sports shoes while you should be in dressy shoes.

While most corporate companies will prefer that you wear black and closed toe shoes, others will allow a bit of color and flexibility in the choice of your footwear. While the medical field will require you to wear functional and laidback shoes the fashion industry will welcome heels and glamorous footwear.

However in schools that do have a predetermined dress code, students especially those in middle and high school love to wear crocs to class. The laidback aspect gives them an edge to having an easy day at school.

What are the Benefits of Wearing Crocs at work?

One of the most significant benefits of wearing crocs to work is comfort. You should always work while your body is stress-free. Crocs can offer that comfort for your calves, ankles and even back especially if you stand all day.

The benefits of wearing Crocs include:

  • Slip resistant soles which will make sure you have a grip whenever you step
  • The holes in most of the crocs ensure your shoes are breathable and your feet don’t get all sweaty
  • Most crocs come with a strap at the back that will help you hold the shoe in place

It is important to note that not all crocs possess the non-slip feature hence can be quite dangerous when you wear them on slippery floors. There is only a portion of the clogs that can boast the slip resistant feature and maybe that’s the pair you should go for if you fancy the shoes.

How Do You Choose Crocs For Work?

If your employer allows you to wear crocs to work, be sure to choose a pair that will not only offer comfort but also is safe for you to wear. Choose crocs which have non-slip soles to avoid slipping in slippery areas and that fit your feet even when you wear socks.

Crocs in the Retail Industry

It is a relief for many employees who work in retail to enjoy the comfort that crocs have to offer. The fatigue that comes when you stand for long whether you are a cashier or a store attendant can be unbearable if you are wearing heels.

Since most retail stores don’t have an immediate concern for their employees and the work they do, wearing crocs is not a problem.

Considering the popularity of Crocs, the manufacturers went ahead to produce a winter collection that has a woolen cover for warmth. These shoes can be worn when you want to relax and the weather is chilly. They will give that extra layer of warmth on top of your pair of socks.

Even though crocs offer comfort and were once popular with nurses, national health institutions issued a ban against them. There are several reasons as to why these institutions feel that crocs are not the ideal footwear for medical practitioners.

Crocs in the Medical Industry

In the medical field, it is a no-brainer to find nurses working 12 hour shifts and most of the time, they are on their feet. You might see why such a profession would want a comfortable shoe that will help ease the stress on their feet and back. Crocs can be quite comfortable especially if you spend a lot of time on your feet.

Does the medical industry allow its employees to wear crocs to work? The answer is no! Depending on the design of most of the crocs, the footwear can pose a lot of health concerns for the wearer. Most crocs come with holes in them which helps make the footwear breathable. As much as you want your toes or feet to breathe, you might be exposing yourself to danger.

So what are some of the concerns when wearing crocs in the medical industry? A needle prick or even a drop of blood might cause an infection because your feet are exposed. Due to such an instance, nurses are expected to wear closed-toe shoes to protect themselves.

Why Did National Health Institutions Ban the Use of Crocs in Medical Facilities?

Hospitals are always at the frontline to ensure the safety of their medical staff. Nurses love how crocs ease the stress and tension on their feet and back. Since crocs come with or without holes, they pose a number of risks to hospital staff. One of the major setbacks are the holes which can provide sharp instruments like needles, a sure way of piercing a nurse’s skin.

Another factor to consider is the fact that the same holes might pave the way for blood drops or other body fluids to come into contact with a nurse’s skin. There is a reason as to why nurses wear gloves when they attend to you and the sole reason is to protect themselves as they work.

Nurses might end up hurting themselves if the crocs are not slip resistant leading to falls. Due to such instabilities nurses should wear shoes that have a slight heel to protect their backs and still the soles should be no-slip.

Conclusion

So the question of whether you can wear crocs to work depends on your employer and the type of work that you do. If you work in a place where you spend most of your time on your feet, get yourself a pair if your employer allows it.
